"The Cube"
War aggression is represented by a square. Rational fears are also associated with a metallic sheen. It portrays objectively bodily reactions caused by fear - the freezing of the heart and the entire body, limb paralysis, and the inability to scream. It's like in a dream when fear is so intense that the heart forgets to beat and thoughts come to a halt.
I chose to work with graphite, drawing inspiration from the bullet pen works of South Korean artist Choi Byung-So.
The shiny areas of graphite abstractly reflect the viewer and the surrounding environment. Time is conditionally halted. Through these frozen moments conveyed by graphite works, I aim to convey the theme of rational fears to the viewer.
Continuing the mechanical impact with a pencil, the areas covered with graphite begin to resemble the surface of skin.
After prolonged rubbing, the areas transform into a textured, skin-like surface. Coldness and stiffness, of goosebumps and shivers represent the bodily reactions that will be reflected in my works.
Panels of Cubic transition from an asphalt-like texture to the imitation of animal skin.
